00 steel wool grit equivalent.
Water with a little soap.
120 to 150 grit.
The reason steel wool leaves the surface porus is because it contours itself to the surface and any irregularities sandpaper is flat and produces a flat finish.
Removes old paint and varnish also can be used to clean glass.
Once they were gone i started restoring the shine progressing through 180 220 320 400 600 800 1000 1200 and 1500 grits.
Hitech graded abrasive sanding steel wool.
Rub until you get a flat even sheen across the entire surface.
The higher the grit number is equivalent to a finer abrasive which creates smoother surface finishes.
150 to 220 grit.
Lower grit numbers represent coarser abrasives that scrape off materials much quicker.
00 steel wool equivalent.
In the chart below the grit size is measured via both the cami.
Switch to a fine synthetic abrasive wool 0000 steel wool equivalent to bring the finish to a satin sheen.
40 t o 60 grit 60 to 80 grit.
Getting rid of the pits took some hard sanding with 80 grit sandpaper.
For a semi gloss sheen continue rubbing with fine synthetic abrasive wool lubricated with soapy water.
Steelwool is available in 8 grades or fiber diameters from extra fine 0000 steel wool then gently coarser to 000 00 0 1 2 3 up to 4 extra coarse.
Equivalent 40 to 60 grit sand paper.
Imo 0000 steel wool is ok for oil finishes but i prefer wet sanding for painted surfaces.
If you re confident you re working on just bare aluminum then the steel wool will work to abrade off some of the oxidation and deterioration after than use some terry cloth a quality aluminum polish to bring.
I use 600 1000 and 2000.
300 to 600 grit.
